Community Tourism

Burundi is one of the rare African countries whose ancestral way of life has withstood the test of time and remained as authentic as it was back in the nineteenth century when the first colonialists  discovered the country.

The last remaining traditional huts of the Mugamba region are a living testimony of the uniqueness of Burundi local communities. When visiting this part of the country, a tourist can easily witness how well organized and authentic community life was during the Burundi monarchy.

Community based tourism is today one of Burundi’s unique selling points. Combined with the hospitality and friendliness of the Burundi people, its distinctive cultural heritage and diversity of traditional dances and music, the country has plenty to offer the tourist.
